Condition report

Good. The navy cover shows real rubbing and a few reading creases, but the color holds and the inside pages are clean and bright. A shiny fleck of residue or sticker scrap is stuck on the model's hair on the front. Every mark is in the photos.

Front: pale mottled rubbing across the navy background, heaviest on the right half around the price and "Hustling in Hollywood"; short white crease lines running in from the left (spine) edge at the raised arm at upper left and across the knee at lower left; the left edge is worn with small nicks, with another small nick on the right edge at the "Hustling" line; corners softened; the "Adults Only" line at the bottom is rubbed; a shiny teal-green fleck, which looks like residue or sticker scrap, stuck on the model's hair above the forehead, and a green speck on the chin; a shiny teal-green fleck, which looks like residue or sticker scrap, stuck on the model's hair above the forehead, and a green speck on the chin. Back: color strong; faint pencil numbers written sideways on the white bedspread at left center; a short blue mark beside the hat at upper left; rubbing with small nicks and a few vertical crease lines along the right (spine) edge; scattered small white flecks. Inside: the football page is clean and bright with one small pale fleck; the three-photo page is clean apart from a small dark vertical mark in the green band between the top photos; the editorial (page 7) and "Our Cover Guy" (page 18) pages are clean and crisp.
The story

The editorial on page 7 sets the tone. The editors of Naked Beefcake #1, and of its "equally well-endowed" sister title Naked Young Champs #1, take a swipe at the sex laws of the day, noting that in Minnesota "carnally knowing" a bird could get you up to 20 years, and then get back to the business of men with their clothes off.

Page 18 introduces "Our Cover Guy," Big Jim, who the editors say can play the junior executive, the cowboy fast on the draw, the football ace or the kingpin of the bikers. The solo sets run hairy and hung: a jock with a football and helmet on a toile armchair printed with stagecoaches and trains, a mustached man sprawled face down on a green sofa, and a curly-haired back-cover man in a red bandana with a saddle behind him.
