Front: a printed "The Brown Elephant 5.00" price sticker in the upper right corner; light rubbing along the left (spine) edge and the top edge, and slightly softened corners. Back: the last image (the "Educational Material" color page) is clean and bright, with faint rubbing along the edges. Inside: the inside front cover with the issue contents is clean; the color page has a few tiny white flecks and a slight darkening along the left edge; the black-and-white page is clean apart from a few small printing specks.
The story

The inside cover of Malevue No. 1 lays out the whole deal: one article, "The Gay Cure?" by Jim Kepner, and three photo studies, Terry Barnes and Jerry Erwin, then Tim Burr, Tom Burk and Mack, then Joe Souci and Bob Rand. The pictures are credited to the Stephens Agency at 6000 Sunset Boulevard, Suite 209, in Hollywood.

The rooms are pure motel, with striped bedspreads, a buttoned vinyl headboard, a seascape over the bed and a TV set keeping watch on the cover. Two men in jeans make out on their knees across a pair of twin beds, a trio piles onto a geometric-print spread, and the back cover labels its three-way "Educational Material," which is one way to put it.
