Good

Good. Both covers are complete and that first color cover still looks great, with honest wear at the edges for a 1976 newsstand magazine. Every mark is in the photos.

THE STORY BEHIND THE OBJECT.

WHY IT MATTERS

Mandate printed its first color cover in August 1976, and this is it. George Mavety's magazine was barely a year old: Loren, Nureyev and Taylor in the photo pages, a Colt discovery in the nudes, and a color centerfold.

OBJECT STORY

Mandate for August 1976, $1.50, "The International Magazine of Entertainment & Eros." Cover lines run from movies (sexual identity in Ode to Billy Joe, and Lifeguard) to art (a male nude portfolio), fashion (summering), photography (superstars Loren, Nureyev, Taylor) and nudes (a Colt discovery), with a color centerfold.

The cover man is all curls, mustache and chest hair, arms behind his head. The back cover is a Man's Image ad for The Physical Man and The Manhandlers, from Box 700-M, Canal Street Station, New York.
