Front: good color, with rubbing along the left (spine) edge, light wear at the corners, and a slightly worn bottom edge. Back: a torn and creased upper left corner with a piece missing, showing white paper underneath; a rounded lower left corner and light wear along the edges; the photos themselves are bright. Inside: the inside front cover with the masthead is clean; the black-and-white and color pages are clean, with a few small specks in the margins and slight darkening along the edges of some pages.
The story

Men of Action, copyright 1978 and "published annually" by House of Milan Corp. in Los Angeles, is Action Male's greatest-hits record, and the editor, who signs himself TAU, says so on the first page: this is a selection of the best photographs of models who have appeared in Action Male, picked to bring you "the hottest and sexiest MEN we can find." The cover backs him up with a bare torso against a brick wall, belt hanging open, and fourteen names running down the side from Mark Wolf to Bill Ridge.

Inside, a bearded, furry man kneels in black and white next to that welcome note, a mustached stud in jeans and work boots holds up another brick wall, and a full uniform sequence goes from service cap and aviator shades to undershirt to undone. The back cover lines up Fred Halsted, Arron Taylor, Micheal Raven and Doug Thomas in color, one of them in a leather cap and studded wrist cuffs, and promises "twelve other equally hot models in this special edition."

Why it matters

It's the first issue of the annual, priced $6.00 on the cover, with Fred Halsted billed alongside thirteen other Action Male men. Hair, leather, denim and a uniform all get their pages, so it covers a lot of ground for one issue.
