The story
Obsessions came out of a Sunset Boulevard office in 1989 with Casey Lee Klinger's name stamped across everything, from the cover tagline to a full-page publisher's letter on the masthead. It went out nationally through Flynt Distributing in Beverly Hills, which tells you how far gay glossies had come from mail-order envelopes.
This is late-eighties Los Angeles gloss, all leather and chrome, with toll-free phone-sex lines advertised right down to the back cover. The masthead spells out that every model is 18 or older. It's the era just before the internet, when the magazine and the phone were how men found each other after hours.
