Spartan for Men ran full-frontal pictorials next to an exposé on the "cure peddlers" who swore they could cure homosexuality. Nothing says "no thanks" like a centerfold.

OBJECT STORY

Spartan for Men, Volume 1 No. 3. One of the early gay magazines that ran full-frontal pictorials right next to real reading: fiction, state-by-state gay news, personal ads, and part two of Jim Kepner’s “The Homosexual and the Cure Peddlers.”

The pictorials include “Spartan of the Month” and a Sunshine Beach Club set, and there’s an ad for Avanti in the back. Somebody took a marker to “Issue 3” on the cover. Otherwise a solid copy of an important title.
